Weight Loss Success

Most people have some idea what it takes to lose weight, but with all the different ways to lose it’s really easy to get confused.  Let me start off by saying there are as many ways to lose weight as there are people looking to shed some pounds.  Some of this may seem remedial, but sometimes we have to re-evaluate what seems remedial – especially when we aren’t practicing the basics and producing results!

Below we’ll discuss:

  • Proper Self Evaluation – What’s a Normal Weight For Me?
  • What’s Involved in Losing Weight?
  • Change – How Much and How Fast?
  • Seeking Expert Help – Who and How They Can Help.
  • Slow Start – Surefire Success and How to Avoid Injury.

Proper Self Evaluation – What’s a Normal Weight For Me?

I am a musician.  When I was younger, I thought I was a pretty darn good singer.  Then I heard a recording of myself singing.  I then realized I wasn’t as good as I thought I was.  (The auditions on the opening episodes of American Idol are obvious how many people don’t really know themselves well.)

You might realize you need to lose weight, but might not really know how much you need to lose.  The best wake up call many of us have had is taking a picture of ourselves with only enough clothing to leaving little to the imagination.  If you haven’t taken a picture of yourself – do it!

Next is to know what is a healthy weight range for you body type.  Here is a great Weight Chart for Men and Women.  Find out approximately where you should be compared to where you are now.  If you’re not sure…

See Your Doctor!

If you have no idea what a normal weight is for you, or especially if you have health problems or have a family history of heart disease, etc. GO see your doctor!

You can’t fix a problem that isn’t properly assessed.  Know where you’re starting out on the map before you hit the road.

Another key assessment to make is, are you still gaining weight?  If so, how much?  How often/when are you gaining?  (Holidays, weekends, etc.)  Is your weight stable?  If you are gaining weight you need to look at your eating habits.  More than likely they aren’t regular habits.  You need to fix this first if you’ll have any chance of losing weight.
