Well… A lot of stuff has happened to me over the last year and a half. I lost a job. Got a new one. Moved to new job. Got married. And the list goes on. All in all, the changes were mostly AWESOME, but it did get me out of my routine.
I am a creature of habit. As a matter of fact I used this character trait to my benefit to lose close to 60 pounds! But the dark side to it is that when I get out of my routine things start to go back to the old ways – going to bed late, watching too much tv, not getting to the gym regularly, and especially eating the wrong foods.
I was a bachelor for 9 years. I’m an okay cook, but I don’t cook a lot. I married a wonderful cook! Do you see where this is going???
So over the past year and a half, I’ve gained back a little over 20 pounds. It’s not totally devastating, but it’s not good either. I got rid of most of my “fat” clothes so I don’t have much that fits me anymore, and I can’t bring myself to buy new “fat” clothes! 🙂
It’s funny how you can totally forget the things that made you successful in times past. I used to be in such a rock solid routine – I had the same workout routine every week, repeated the same diet, etc. Over time I had forgotten much of it, but I have been able to reconstruct much of it in the past couple days.
Here is what I’m going to do:
- Workout 6 days a week
- Track calories burned and consumed daily
- Get enough sleep every day (7:30 – 9 hrs)
- Take a few targeted supplements
- Drink lots of water
- Reduce stress
- Quantify all results!
To measure my results I am using these tools:
- BodyMedia Wireless LINK Armband
- BodyMedia FIT online software and Android app for live tracking
- MyFitnessPal.com for calories consumed (both online and Android app) – link this to BodyMedia FIT
- Omron HBF-306C Fat Loss Monitor to calculate body fat percentage
- Standard weigh scale
- Fabric tape measure to calculate waist circumference, etc.
I will use all of the above daily except the body fat monitor. I’ll use that once a week.
I will also periodically post my results from MyFitnessPal in these posts to give you a visual of my progress, as below:

Please let me know if you have any questions about what I’m doing and why I’m doing it. I’ll be posting more on specifics in later posts.
I also have a before picture, but I’m NOT going to post it before I have my after picture! Ha ha. It will be a lot less embarrassing to show alongside my awesome six pack abs after pic! 😉
Why am I doing this? Welp…
It sucks to gain all that weight after you lost it in the first place. It really sucks to admit it to the whole world!! BUT, I really want to help people and know I can. This is a way I can show you that you can do this, too.
